Micro-Break core exercise that is designed to strengthen the core muscles

So, we're going to go through a micro break. And basically, I'm going to have him arch his back and so he's sticking his stomach out. And then, what he's going to do, is Engage The Core and push back against my hand. You can see him rounding his back. When he rounds his back, his core is doing the work. None of the engagement of the muscles is coming from his neck and shoulders. This is purely a core exercise.

What patients often find is that when they have back pain or dysfunction in the back, they actually want to use their neck muscles and shoulder muscles to Engage The Core. That is one of the common reasons why people when they start doing core exercises, will find that they have neck pain and hip pain and hip flexor tightness.
